Earlier this week on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, my good friend and San Francisco-based designer Ken Chen, presented his fall/winter 2012 collection at a New York Fashion Week event at W.I.P. by ASTONISH Magazine. And I was thoroughly shocked and impressed.
For his first show at this magnitude, he introduced himself as a designer with a strong point of view and even stronger tailoring skills. His silhouettes were flattering with impeccably placed details, and the designs were easily wearable while overall beautifully monochromatic with a pop of well-placed color. And his leather jackets were to die for.
After the show, I met up with Ken to discuss the success of his first show during NYFW and was surprised to discover the handbags and shoes were of his design as well, establishing himself as a lifestyle brand in the making. (The handbags weren’t included in the show, but pictures will be coming soon.)
For such a young designer (he’s only 22) and to make this type of line for men and women, he’s placed himself on my list of designers to watch.
