Any New Yorker (including all of us at Aspiring Fashionista) prays to eventually make it to the pages of The New York Times’ Styles Section by way of Bill Cunningham‘s camera lens.
Now you too can prove your love for the octogenarian street style photographer by buying this shirt from Barneys ($65). We’re guessing he’s too humble to actually photograph anyone sporting the shirt, but we’re sure he’ll appreciate the sentiment.
If you haven’t already been introduced to Cunningham, educate yourself by watching the Richard Press documentary “Bill Cunningham New York” and fall in love with this adorable fashion influencer.

I hope he (or a charity of his choosing) gets a large portion of sales.
Agreed! After watching the documentary, we all know he doesn’t make much money.
You have no way of knowing that “he doesn’t make much money,” He lives a simple life, but he does not actually say how much he makes/has in the documentary. Yes, he gives off the impression he is frugal and doesn’t accept bribes from the industry, but it’s neither confirmed nor denied whether he has a salary or not from the NYT.
Thank you for sharing our love for Bill Cunningham. However, you’re correct. We don’t have proof Mr. Cunningham doesn’t make “much,” but we based our statement on observations (clothing, frugality, state of living, etc.) and the average photographer salary in New York City. All of this on top of his living in artist accommodations, which run much cheaper than the basic New York apartment.
Thanks for the feedback! We hope you continue reading The Aspiring Fashionista.
