Best of: Golden Globes Beauty

We aren’t exclusively into fashion and beauty here at The Aspiring Fashionista (we do have a life after all). We also like [non-reality] TV and movies too. Therefore, awards season gives us yet another reason to take in all the stars’ Red Carpet looks and cheer on our favorite actors and actresses as they excruciatingly await the revealing of the ceremony’s winners.

This year the Golden Globes provided plenty of entertainment with a (sadly) less-snarky Ricky Gervais and lots of beauty looks to copy.

Best Use of Nail Art: Zooey Deschanel

She was nominated but didn’t win for her hilarious yet cute role as Jess in the “New Girl.” Deschanel looked amazing on the Red Carpet in faux eyelashes fringing her signature doe eyes. But we’re more interested in her black tie nail art. The actress tweeted this picture of her nails with “I am wearing a gown but my nails are wearing tuxedos!!! #goldenglobes.” Even more reason to love her!

Best Use of Red Lips: Angelina Jolie

Say what you want about Jolie, but her red lips looked perfect on the Red Carpet. We weren’t so crazy about her not-so-flattering Atelier Versace dress, but she had the perfect lip to match it. Given Paz de la Huerta‘s messy track record, we were nearly convinced it’s impossible to look good when a lipstick and dress match exactly. But Jolie shows it can be done properly. (Take note, de la Huerta.)

Best Use of a Sparkly Headband: Charlize Theron

Theron looks ethereal more often than not. But her low, wavy bun – as pretty as it was – could have easily gone under the radar without the sparkly headband. Just hearing the phrase “sparkly headband” evokes high school prom (and not in a good way), but this is probably how one thinks she’ll look when she uses a sparkly headband, whether the outcome is similar or not. Plus, this low retro bun looks like it could be easy to copy. (Though we haven’t tried it yet.)

Best Use of Ombre Hair: Salma Hayek

Hayek isn’t one of those stars who makes hair mistakes on the red carpet. Plus, she doesn’t seem to just opt for an updo at every awards show, like so many other actresses do. This ombre hair trend has all but played itself out, but she still pulls it off oh so well with soft waves and that golden glow.
